Marketing addendum

That article I was complaining about in the last post is here if you care to read it, Chris and anyone else. And Chris, although I can see your point, you do buy everything I make and you are in my sphere. So? I'd like to think the rules are changing for how sales happen between people, because it's easier now to connect one crafter to one buyer than ever before.

Oh, thank you!

I would love it if crafters could support each other. But I really think we're going to have to make it known to the mainstream, TV-watching, movie-going, video-game playing, Lexus driving, middle-aged homeowner that they can benefit from getting their shoes, dresses, towels, potholders, sweaters, wall art, socks, and birthday presents from independent crafters. Because it seems to me that right now, only crafters know that. My friends don't read my blog, and they don't look online for independent makers of belts and hats, no matter how often I may suggest it. It's just not a matter of habit. Until it is, we're going to be self-supporting. And it's too bad, because we got great stuff!

oh, my word verification: dinglyph.

I just read the article. I think maybe I don't fully understand his point. Is he saying that outside a corporate structure we can't market our product? That I don't agree with. However, I do believe that it could take that much money to even start to make a dent in a marketing strategy that might pay back our efforts. I'll have to read it again when I'm not with the family...

I take back everything I said about anything. I really just like to watch Seinfeld and eat those straw cookies.
